Construction Birthday Party

Ok I know baby Jack’s birthday party was a month and a half ago but I finally have pictures of all the decorations.

I didn’t want to break the bank on a first birthday mainly because Jack won’t remember it and really it’s all about getting together and stuff.  So, I made the cake and the decorations and bought what I could for cheap.  We did a construction theme because well he’s a little boy and he has already shown his fondness for all things messy and dirty.  He also was glued to the window while they were doing road construction outside of our apartment.  It also helps that he loves baths so YAY for that one.

Here is what we had

  • Cake
  • Happy Birthday Jack banner
  • Photo Collage

The Cake

Found this on Pinterest and one of my friends has actually already sent it to her sister to re-create it.  Super easy the main cake, which was Jack’s, was a double layer chocolate cake, and the we had cup cakes of various flavors with sprinkles

All of the little construction vehicals we bought at Toys R Us in a set for $15 and then that way Jack has a ton of toys that he can play with as well.  Win Win Situation.

Happy Birthday Banner

In keeping with the construction theme I made a road sign Banner

My husband picked out his 13 (one from birth) favorite pictures from each month of Jack’s life and then I added little phrases and what month it was to keep it interesting.  It was a group effort.  It was amazing to see how much he changed in the first year.  Can only imagine what the next year will bring

And of course I can’t talk about Jack’s first birthday without sharing a picture of him covered in Chocolate cake

New Year New Beginnings….Hello 2013

A new year is a time for resolutions.   “I am going to lose weight”, “I am going to be a better person”.  My resolution, to make sure people share their memories.    I am going to do everything I can to make sure that the importance of memory preservation is heard and understood.    So I am starting off January with letting everybody know that organization and preservation of all of the memories doesn’t have to be so daunting.

Pictures are wonderful.  They are a great way to preserve our memories.  Before the digital age we had to have pictures printed and once they are gone they are gone.  One of the very special things about those “old” pictures.  With the digital age the number of pictures has grown, taking some of the importance with it.   The importance of getting that “perfect” shot isn’t there anymore because you are not wasting a picture that’s on your roll of film.  Now you can just delete it an start again.   So now, there are thousands of pictures to sort through instead of hundreds.

Sorting through pictures seems to be a very daunting task, one that most people will say “I will get to it later” pretty soon you are 3 years behind and now frustration mounts so high that nothing ever gets done.

So, in 2013, it’s time to get organized, make the thought of sorting and organizing pictures not be something that you “have” to do, but something that you “want” to do.   Make it a family project share the stories that the pictures tell.

1 Picture is still worth 1000 words whether it’s printed or digital.

Some tools to help you get those photos organized…

  1. Photo boxes – Need to be sure these are PHOTO SAFE and ACID Free.  If they aren’t the pictures will yellow and color will distort
  2. Software – Organizing in folders on your computer works well, but what about having software that will let you organize by media date, has photo recognition, and lets you do all of the editing that you need?

Getting started with Organization is easy with the Organization Top Pick from Creative Memories.  Click on the picture below to go directly to my website.  For $69 you get a Power Sort Box, Power Sort Compartment Box Dividers (Set of 12 Additional dividers) and Memory Manager 4.0 Software.  If these items were purchased separately it would come out to $84.
