Ever since I was in school I always looked forward to school supply shopping and getting everything organized. I would pack, unpack, and re-pack my backpack at least 5 times before school actually started. It was my most favorite thing about school. So when I completed my MBA I was a little sad because I wouldn’t get to go school supply shopping anymore. NOT TRUE. Back to school season is my new year!! It’s time to get new “supplies” and get organized and make big things happen.
Like I mentioned in my last post I got my organization notebook, which is basically going to be my life this year. After showing my book to my friend she wanted something similar for her family binder so I created her a “weekly plan”. Be sure to check out her blog at http://cultivatingtrio.com/
If you are like me and my friend if it doesn’t get written down it doesn’t get done. However, it is important to not write down too much! Here are a couple of tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your week!!
Don’t plan your week to the minute.
Too much planning will lead to failure (sorry to be blunt), but think about it life happens, things don’t go according to plan, you need some down time and so on. Be sure to give yourself a little down time and to a lot for LIFE. It will make you feel much more accomplished.
At the end of the day if you rush through your tasks you will end up taking more time than if you just take your time. I still have some work to do on this one both in my personal and professional life, but knowing where your shortfalls are is the first step. QUALITY NOT QUANTITY!!!
Prioritization is your friend
There is nothing wrong with Prioritizing your todo list and then re-prioritizing it later in the week. Things come up and priorities change. When you are making your plan pick just one or two things that you for sure want to get done.
For example, last weekend while my son was at his grandparents I wanted to make sure I get the curtains hung in the bedroom. If I got nothing else done all weekend then that’s fine but that was the one thing I really wanted to get done and I did. I felt much better than if I had a list of 10 things I wanted to get done and didn’t get to 9 of them because I took a nap. Never feel bad about taking a nap, your body is telling you something if you are that tired!!!! 🙂
Kids, pets, spouses???
Be sure you have time in your week for them. I get all of my personal stuff done after my son goes to bed so that we have some good quality play time when I get home from work and after dinner. Spending time with family will make you more productive in the long run because then they will be supportive. 🙂
Organizing is Personal – everybody is different
It has taken me almost 30 years to figure out what way works best for me and I actually change it every year or during the year. What works for one person may not work for you. It’s all about trial and error.
So happy back to school season everybody. Watch for more posts coming on organization and pictures and some things to do to wrap your summer!!!
Thanks for stopping!!!
